Camping

Individual camping is not available in Point Pelee National Park.

Who Can Camp and When?

There are limited camping opportunities at Point Pelee due to the small and fragile nature of the Park. All reservations will be made on a first come, first served basis, beginning the first business day of January. Reservations can only be made in the year camping is requested.

Year-round camping is open to Youth (6-16 years) and educational groups comprised of full-time students enrolled at a recognized educational institution (regardless of age).

During the months of May, September and October the group camping area will be open to registered not-for-profit adult groups(ex.Nature groups or organizations).

No dogs allowed in group camping

Capacity

The group camping site is divided into two separate areas:
  • Little Raccoon South - maximum capacity: 20 people
  • Little Raccoon North - maximum capacity: 20 people
  • Minimum group size is 8 people.

Length of Stay

  • A group may reserve a campsite for a maximum of four (4) nights.
  • Each group can make no more than one booking per month.

Arrival/departure time is 3:00pm

Sharing

  • In order to make the most efficient use of the area and allow as many campers as possible to use the facilities, groups will be required to share washroom and shelter facilities.

Parking

  • Each campsite has a designated parking lot. Registered vehicles must park in this lot and NOT in the campsite or roadways.
  • Registered overflow vehicles are to park at the Visitor Centre or West Beach.
  • Vehicle permits are required from April 1 to October 31. All vehicles staying in the Park will receive a vehicle permit.
  • All vehicle permits must be displayed on the vehicles throughout the duration of the campout.
  • Group leaders, please inform all members of your group of this requirement.

Facilities

Group camping facilities include:
  • a kitchen shelter with a woodburning stove, electrical outlets and lighting
  • a cooking grill
  • a washroom building with running cold water and limited hot water for showers (April to October)
  • a privy and water pump (November to March)
  • a firepit for each tenting area
  • Wood and recycling receptacles

Access

  • The campground facilities were renovated in 1992 to meet accessibility standards, however, the washroom facility is not accessible. Please contact the park, if accessible washrooms are needed.

Reservations

  • Phone reservations will start the first business day for the current year. Please call 1-866-PT-PELEE.
  • Minimum required supervision is 1 adult for every 8 youth(6-16 yrs).
  • Full payment is required upon reservation by Master Card or VISA.
  • If cancellation is received at least two weeks prior to camping date, a $10 administrative fee will be subtracted from total and the remainder will be refunded.

No refunds for cancellations received within two weeks of camping date.

Fees

General Information

  • Only tents and bedrolls are allowed at the group campsite. Motor homes, trailers and other pop-up type campers are NOT PERMITTED on the site.
  • Please help us protect the natural resources of Point Pelee. The picking of wildflowers and the collection of any natural objects is prohibited in national parks. This includes sand, stones, leaves, feathers, fossils, wood, etc. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
  • Wild animals such as raccoons and squirrels live in the Park and can become attracted to human food and garbage. Please keep all food locked up or in your vehicles when not cooking and eating. It is illegal to feed animals in national parks.
  • We encourage visitors to use the pack-in/pack-out disposal method. That is, the garbage generated by you should be packaged and taken with you when leaving the Park.
  • A recycling station is located at the site. Please sort recyclables and deposit in appropriate containers.
  • In consideration of others, the campsite should be kept clean and tidy at all times.
  • Group leaders are responsible for the actions of your group. Please inform each member of your group of all regulations governing group camping prior to your campout.
  • DO NOT BRING YOUR OWN FIREWOOD - as it is against the law.
    Purchase firewood from the park and help prevent the movement of the Emerald Ash Borer and other invasive species.
