Georgian Bay Islands National Park is a wonderful place for paddlers to explore that iconic Canadian landscape of exposed granite and windswept pine. Waterfront campsites, sheltered bays and rugged shoreline make the park an appealing destination for experienced paddlers.

Visitors considering arriving at Georgian Bay Islands National Park by canoe or kayak should be aware of a number of factors.

• Paddlers will cross busy boat channels. Expect to encounter numerous vessels and frequent boat wake, particularly on weekends.
• Crossing open areas will expose paddlers to the potential for high winds and rough water.
• Numerous islands and channels can make the area confusing for those visiting for the first time. Bring the appropriate charts!

For these reasons Georgian Bay Islands National Park is not recommended as a destination for novice paddlers.
