There is a pleasant two-day or more paddle on the segment of the Salt River that meanders between the Pine Lake Road and Highway No. 5. It is navigable for about two weeks in early May during spring run-off. The upper section of the river is teaming with longnose suckers who spawn in its gravelly shallow waters. Many different types of birds can be seen on the river at this time including swans, eagles and numerous types of ducks. Some of the creeks that flow into the Salt River make for interesting exploring.
