Parks Canada will develop a Management Plan for Sable Island National Park Reserve within five years following legal designation under the Canada National Parks Act. This process involves Aboriginal and public consultation. The first step is for Parks Canada to learn more about the island by working closely with those who have been involved in it over the years, such as the Canadian Coast Guard, Environment Canada’s Meteorological Service of Canada, and other experts knowledgeable about its ecology and history. This approach is consistent with public input provided in 2010, which supported the approach of taking the time to develop a foundation of knowledge for future decision making.
