Highlands Links, ranked 79th in the World ( Golf Magazine, August 2007) and Number one in Canada, ( ScoreGolf Magazine, August 2008) is a true links course, framed by the rugged Atlantic coastline and the mountainous contours of the Cape Breton Highlands. Canadian golfers concur with the experts as they too have voted Highlands Links as the Best Public Course in Canada along with Best Scenery and Best Value.
George Knudson, Canada's smooth swinging and most successful PGA professional, called Highlands the “Cypress Point of Canada”. He reportedly once said that No. 7 at the Highlands was the best Par Five in the world. Combined with others holes on course that are ranked among the finest and most challenging in the world, golfers can anticipate a remarkable golfing experience set within the exceptional setting of Cape Breton Highlands National Park.
The credit goes primarily to Stanley Thompson who designed his masterpiece in Cape Breton Highlands National Park. The brilliance of his design is apparent to all with his famous bunkering and magnificent routing winding its way seamlessly through rocky headlands and wooded glens, all the while offering golfers breathtaking mountain and ocean views.
Thompson's legacy is a national treasure to be played, experienced and enjoyed! Highlands Links offers an exhilarating challenge to golfers and captures Scottish traditions in both setting and colorful Celtic names for the holes. Having earned a 4 ½ -star ranking in Golf Digest's Best Places to Play this past year, Highlands Links is now listed among the elite of golf and noted in Golf Digest as “perhaps Canada's finest course.”
“Nature must always be the architect's model” according to Stanley Thompson. Enjoy the natural setting as you play golf at Highlands Links.© Highlands Links Golf Course
Thompson's adage that “Nature must always be the architect's model” is fully evident throughout the “topsy turvy fairways, the superb collection of par fives, the strategic, natural holes and the greens that are small and well guarded” ( Golf Magazine, Sept 99). Highlands Links is also the first course in Atlantic Canada to hold the designation of “Certified Audubon Co-operative Sanctuary.”
