Guided Walks

Green Point—Stroll Through Strata
Join a park interpreter as you walk 1 km to pass through 15 million years of the Earth’s history. Meet at Green Point, 100 metres north of Green Point campground on Route 430. (1.5 hours)

Baker’s Brook Walk
Discover what is happening to the forests of Gros Morne National park. Meet at the parking lot in Berry Hill campground. (1.5 hours)

Tablelands—Walk Upon the Earth’s Mantle
Explore exceptional ecology and internationally significant geology. A park interpreter will guide you through a landscape described as a geologist’s dream. Meet at the Tablelands parking lot on Route 431. (2 hours)

Tidepool Walk
Living on the coast is a struggle for the marine life in the tidal pools at the edge of the sea. Meet a guide from Memorial University of Newfoundland’s Bonne Bay Marine Station at Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse for a close up look at the marine survivors. Rubber boots are recommended; the beach is rocky and slippery. (1.5 hours)

Cow Head Walk
The beauty, history, and geology of Cow Head never ceases to amaze. Come along with Glenda and Angie to discover the wonders of this very special place in this very special community. Meet at Dr. Henry N. Payne Museum, Cow Head. (2 hours, admission fee)

Green Gardens Hike
Hike into the heart of a volcano that was once at the bottom of an ocean. From the barren Tablelands to pastoral meadows, connect with a park interpreter at the Long Pond parking lot for a 2 hour introductory hike. This is a great preamble for self-exploration of the moderate to hard 4 hours return Green Gardens hike.

Stanleyville Walk
Celebrate the International Year of Forests as we delve deep and discover the many uses of the forest for all creatures both great and small, both in the past and the present. From the littlest lichen to the tallest tree, we’ll connect with our living history and tap into its magical mysteries. (1.5 hours)

Daytime Activities

Broom Point
Join experienced staff to hear the story of the three Mudge brothers and their families who fished at this site from 1941 to 1975. Guided talks are available everyday starting at 10:30 a.m. and repeated on the half-hour until 4:30 p.m.

Grandmother’s Medicine Bag
Join Kevin as he talks about the plants and trees his ancestors used for food and medicine. Relax and listen to stories about how Elders respected all living things provided by the Creator. Meet at the Discovery Centre in Woody Point. (1 hour)

Janney Workshop
Experience an old Newfoundland tradition at Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse. Whether you decide to “janney up” or join our special Christmas family awaiting the janneys’ arrival, you will be entertained with music, dance, and plenty of laughter. Don’t forget to bring your camera! (1 hour)

Salmon Science in Action
Discover how scientists are monitoring the number of Atlantic salmon in the park. You may be lucky enough to see some! Bring footwear for wading. Meet at the Western Brook Day Use Area parking lot. (1 hour)

Heads, Guts, and Soundbone
Discover the duties and responsibilities of a fisherwoman with Louise. From salting codfish, digging the vegetable garden, baking cookies, collecting firewood, to washing clothes, you will find it all at Broom Point on Wednesday afternoons at 1:30 p.m. Drop in to see what awaits you! (1 hour)

Puppet Show: “Super” Mario’s Awesome Adventures in Gros Morne
Join Mario on his very first trip to a national park—a wild adventure with an exciting mystery you can help him solve! (1 hour)

Lighthouse Days
Step back in time at Lobster Cove Head with Bonnie Lou as she celebrates the history of the lighthouse through different activities each week. Learn about lobster fishing from a daughter’s point of view, visit the light keeper’s den to reflect upon your experience, discover the language of flags, or fly a kite! (1 hour)

Trout River Zodiac Tour
Zoom into adventure and jump aboard the newest attraction around! Feel the adrenaline rush and explore the spectacular landscape, geology, and wildlife of Trout River Pond. (2 hours, admission fee & reservations required)

Sense-a-tion Inspiration
Let nature’s true spirit inspire you to dream, to create a painting, a sketch, a poem, all while surrounded by and soaked in the flora and fauna of the forest. Meet at the Trout River Pond Day Use Area (1.5 hours)

Evening Programs

Staying Alive
Some are cute, some are not, but all species at risk are important and need our help and that’s no jive talkin’! In a light hearted, sometimes touching, look into species at risk, Angie will show you who these critters are, who’s protecting them, and how it’s done.

Gros Morne Rocks!
Explore more than one billion years of geological history that saw the destruction of oceans and continents, the birth of a great mountain chain, and the forces it took to shove blocks of the Earth’s mantle onto the crust. (1 hour)

Passing the Time in Trout River
A cultural program led by folklorist and traditional singer Anita Best, with musicians and storytellers from the area, along with some well-known guest artists. Visitors will be encouraged to participate. Trout River Interpretation Centre on the boardwalk. (1 hour)

Ease into the Evening
Hatha yoga to ease aching muscles and the stress of a busy summer day. Join us for a gentle and quiet yoga, that includes guided visualizations and breath work, that will pull you into the here and the now of this special place, Gros Morne National Park. (1 hour)

Storytelling
Join Kevin and company at the Lomond kitchen shelter or on the boardwalk in the community of Trout River as they celebrate the rich history of the area in stories and song. Bring along your singing voice and a mug for some chocolate! Please check the schedule for the location. (1 hour)

Campfire, Lobster Cove Head: Three Cheers for 100 Years!
Take a trip, across time and nation, to hear the wildlife’s thoughts on this celebration. Telling the stories you want to hear, Parks Canada turns one hundred this year! Bring a mug for hot chocolate or tea and your singing voice. (1 hour)

Campfire, Shallow Bay campground: The Truth Lies Deep in Shallow Bay!
When the famous Piping Plovers come to town things turn upside down. Discover the secret lives of these endangered species and the dark side of some of their predators as we embark on an evening mystery around the campfire. (1 hour)

A Park Alive with Art

Art in the Park
Laughter filled workshops and messes are on the go at the Discovery Centre as we explore different ways to create and to express our creativity! A variety of art materials will be explored over the course of the summer, including printing, painting, sculpture, drawing, and photography!

Artist in Residence
Explore art through a presentation or workshop by the visiting artist(s) in the Gros Morne National Park Artist in Residence program.

Gros Morne Summer Music
Put on your painting clothes and dancing shoes! Lead by local artists, dancers, and Gros Morne Summer Music musicians, kids 5 to 11 years old work on visual art projects inspired by music. (1.5 hours)
