Yoho National Park Campground Information - 2009

There are a variety of front country campgrounds to suit every style of camping from one with showers to a scenic walk-in campground in view of Takakkaw Falls. They are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Wheelchair accessible washrooms are available at each campground.

Winter camping available at Monarch Campground.

Check ahead for any seasonal restrictions.

Chancellor Campground

  • Open June 5 - September 7, 2009
  • Located at the west end of Yoho, 1 km west of Hoodoo Creek Campground.
  • 59 sites
  • Services include kitchen shelters, potable water, picnic tables, food storage, firewood, pit toilets and a sani-dump station available at Hoodoo Campground (1 km east on the Trans-Canada Highway).
  • Fires are permitted in designated areas.

Hoodoo Creek Day Use Area / Campground

  • Open June 5 - September 7, 2009
  • Hoodoo Creek Day Use Area is located 22 km west of Field
  • 30 sites
  • Services include dry toilets, food storage, cold water hand pump. Fires are not permitted.

Kicking Horse Campground ( map )

  • Open May 25 - October 5, 2009
  • Located 3 km east of Field and handy to hiking trails and the Takakkaw Falls road.
  • 92 sites
  • Amenities are the same as Hoodoo Creek campground with the addition of hot showers, a wheelchair accessible washroom with shower and an outdoor theatre with interpretive programs . In July and August plan to arrive early as the campground is usually full before noon.

Monarch Campground

  • Open May 1 - May 25 and June 5 - September 7, 2009
  • Located on the Yoho Valley Road, 3 km east of the Town of Field and within walking distance of Kicking Horse Campground.
  • Wheelchair accessible washrooms, kitchen shelter with wood stove.
  • The 46 sites are located in a big meadow.
  • Well water with pump, pump out toilets, shelter, recycle shed, food storage, a smoke-free area.

Winter camping available from October 6 to May 1, 2010

Takakkaw Falls (walk-in) Campground

  • Open June 19 - September 30, 2009
  • Located 17 km east of Field at the top of the Takakkaw Falls road and 300 metres from the Takakkaw Falls day use area parking lot.
  • The campground is a tent walk-in campground only but a cart is provided for moving gear.
  • Vehicles towing another unit cannot make it up the switchbacks on the Yoho Valley road to Takakkaw Falls.
  • There is an unbeatable view from most of the 35 sites.
  • Well water with pump, pump out toilets, kitchen shelter with stove, fire rings and firewood, recycle shed, food storage.
