Kicking Horse Campground (map)
  • Located 3 km east of Field and handy to hiking trails and the Takakkaw Falls road.
  • 92 sites
  • Amenities are the same as Hoodoo Creek campground with the addition of hot showers, a wheelchair accessible washroom with shower and an outdoor theatre with interpretive programs.
  • In July and August plan to arrive early as the campground is usually full before noon.
Monarch Campground
  • Located on the Yoho Valley Road, 3 km east of the Town of Field and within walking distance of Kicking Horse Campground.
  • Wheelchair accessible washrooms, kitchen shelter with wood stove.
  • The 46 sites are located in a big meadow.
  • Pump out toilets, shelter, recycle shed, food storage, and a smoke-free area. Fire is permitted only in the kitchen shelter stove.
Takakkaw Falls (walk-in) Campground
  • Located 17 km east of Field at the top of the Takakkaw Falls road and 300 metres from the Takakkaw Falls day use area parking lot.
  • The campground is a tent walk-in campground only but a cart is provided for moving gear.
  • Vehicles towing another unit cannot make it up the switchbacks on the Yoho Valley road to Takakkaw Falls.
  • There is an unbeatable view from most of the 35 sites.
  • Pump out toilets, kitchen shelter with stove, fire rings and firewood, recycle shed, food storage.
Hoodoo Creek Day Use Area / Campground
  • Located 22 km west of Field
  • 30 sites
  • Services include dry toilets and food storage. Fires are not permitted.
Chancellor Peak Campground
  • Located at the west end of Yoho, 1 km west of Hoodoo Creek Campground.
  • 59 sites
  • Services include kitchen shelters, potable water, picnic tables, food storage, firewood, pit toilets and a sani-dump station available at Hoodoo Campground (1 km east on the Trans-Canada Highway).
  • Fires are permitted in designated areas.

Campsites

Reservations and Fees
  • Yoho National Park campgrounds do not take reservations. Campsites are available on a first come first serve basis only. Demand is heaviest from June through September, with July and August being the busiest months.
  • Camping and campfire permits must be purchased at the campground kiosk or at a self registration booth. See a complete list of fees.
Facilities and Services
  • Campfires are permitted at Chancellor Peak, Kicking Horse and Takakkaw Falls (walk-in) campgrounds.
  • Showers are available at Kicking Horse campground only.
  • Sani-dump stations are available at Hoodoo Creek and Kicking Horse campgrounds
Rules
  • Quiet hours are in effect daily from 11:00 pm – 7:00 am
  • Generator use is permitted between the hours of 8:00-9:30 am, and 5:00-7:00 pm 
  • Maximum of 1 vehicle / site plus 2 tents - or - 1 camping unit (e.g. tent trailer or recreational vehicle) plus 1 tent
  • Maximum of 6 people / site
  • Pets must be kept on a leash at all times and should not be left unattended
  • Checkout time is 11:00 am.
Accessibility
  • All campgrounds in Yoho National Park are wheelchair accessible. 

Bears and Camping

When camping, be aware. You are in bear country!

  • Cooking Stoves
  • Garbage Bags
  • Wash Basins

Bears that get hooked on food and garbage are problem bears and may have to be destroyed. Please help us keep bears wild. Store all coolers and food items in your vehicle o in storage lockers if provided. Report any bear sightings to park staff. How to keep a "bare" campsite.

Learning Opportunities

Interpretive programs are available at the Kicking Horse campground during the summer months. These programs are free and everyone is welcome to attend.
