Laying out the Land, Sea, People story on the pole
Field unit superintendent Ernie Gladstone spoke about the Gwaii Haanas Legacy Pole connecting us to the hundreds of poles that once lined villages along the coast of Haida Gwaii. It will be the first pole raised in Gwaii Haanas in 130 years.
The pole will tell the story of protecting Gwaii Haanas from mountain-top to sea floor, said Cindy Boyko, the Haida Nation representative on Gwaii Haanas’s cooperative management board.
Carver Jaalen Edenshaw explained how the people of Haida Gwaii and beyond are working together to protect this special place.
Guests received witness gifts, as part of the Haida tradition, at the event.
