Jasper Townsite Information Centre
The Jasper National Park Townsite Information Centre is open year-round.
-
Information Services : From June through September, the information centre becomes very crowded. It is helpful if just one or two representatives bring questions to the staff on behalf of their group.
-
Brochures , maps and park publications are available to tour group leaders in small quantities for distribution to the group. A wide selection of publications is available for purchase from the retail outlet.
-
Parking near the information centre is difficult during the summer months. There are several designated bus parking lots along Connaught Drive. Groups travelling by bus are encouraged to use these parking areas for all townsite stops.
-
Athabasca Park (the grounds surrounding the information centre) is a great place for people to relax, stretch their legs and get some fresh air. As this facility is used by many people, please refrain from sports activities such as Frisbee, football, etc.
- The Friends of Jasper National Park operate a retail outlet in the information centre. Books, maps and other park-related publications are available for purchase. Proceeds from these sales are returned to the park through grants and volunteer projects. A guided historic walk of the townsite is offered nightly during the summer.
-
Jasper Tourism and Commerce operates an information counter in the Townsite Information Centre during the summer months, and provides information on hotel vacancies, dining, tours and various commercial activities.
-
Public washrooms are located across Connaught Drive in the pink stone building.
-
Public telephones are also located across Connaught Drive. A limited number of courtesy phones (local calls only) are located in the information centre.
Icefield Information Centre
The Icefield Centre is open from May 1 to mid-October. The Parks Canada Information counter is located on the concourse level of the Icefield Centre. Here visitors can obtain a variety of park-related information. The information counter staff can be reached by calling (780) 852-6288 or fax (780) 852-6287.
-
Parking is available both to the south of the Icefield Centre (buses only) and to the north (cars, vans and motor homes).
-
Snocoach Tours operate daily during the summer. A short stop near the middle of the glacier allows visitors to get out and explore the 300-metre-thick sheet of ice. Reservations: (403)762-6735; fax (403) 762-6765.
-
Icewalks , led by certified mountain guides, leave daily from the Toe-of-the-Glacier parking lot. Tickets and reservations are available at the Icefield Chalet Hotel front desk or by reservation at 1-800-565-7547 or (780) 852-5595.
-
The nearest gas station is 52 km south at Saskatchewan River Crossing (seasonal only). Please watch for the "next gas" signs along the Icefields Parkway as you leave Jasper and Lake Louise.
- A restaurant and cafeteria can be found on the second floor of the building.
- A gift shop is located across from the Parks Canada Information counter on the concourse level of the centre.
-
Picnic tables are available both in the lower parking lot and on the viewing deck. Please do not feed the birds. Feeding wildlife is unlawful and can result in fines.
-
Hotel Accommodation is available in the Icefield Centre from May 1 until mid-October. Contact Brewster Transportation and Tours Co. for reservations and information. Reservations are required in peak periods.
-
Postal and banking services are not available at the Icefield Centre. The closest post offices and banking services can be found in Jasper or Lake Louise. An ATM is available and postcards can be left at the gift shop.
-
Toilets are located on the concourse level beside the phones. Dry toilets are also available in the lower parking lot.
-
Public telephones are located inside the Icefield Centre and in the lower parking lot.
