Jasper National Park of Canada

2006/10

Jasper National Park Management Planning Forum

Parks Canada is hosting the annual planning forum for Jasper National Park, to be held on Friday, November 17, 2006 at the Sawridge Hotel in Jasper, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend. An information package is available for participants, and advance registration is requested (see information below).

The annual planning forum is an important event for everyone with an interest in Jasper National Park. It is an opportunity to review and discuss Parks Canada’s progress in implementing the park management plan, and a chance to discuss the park’s future priorities together.

Members of the public play a pivotal role in the forum’s success by identifying emerging issues or gaps, sharing perspectives, and generating potential solutions and areas for collaborative effort. The structure of the forum reflects the feedback of participants from previous years, who have suggested that Parks Canada spend time on informative presentations and discussion, with the emphasis on discussion and interaction. A particularly popular session is the opportunity to participate in the superintendent’s open mike question and answer discussion.

Draft agenda

Making New Ground with the Jasper Trails Project

logo

Over the next several months we will be calling on trail users of all types to share with us their visions for an updated network. This will allow us to see the “big picture”.

Where are your favourite trails? How do you use them? What makes them an excellent trail experience? Which 6 trails are the most important for you? Is there enough suitable trail for you and your activity? How much is enough? These are some of the questions we will explore in workshop and open house format. These information-gathering sessions will be held for individual trail user types (i.e. horse, bike, jog, etc.) and for the general public. The Working Group will use this information to design various trail scenarios, which will then be brought back to the community for further discussion and feedback.

If you are passionate about the trail system, we need to hear from you! Mark your calendars.

  1. Public Open Houses Dates:
    Wednesday, November 22, 7-9 pm
    Saturday, November 25, 10-2 pm
Place: Jasper Emergency Services Building, 518 Geikie St
  2. Newspaper questionnaire- Can’t make a workshop? Watch for a project questionnaire in the local papers.
  3. Interest-based workshops- these are open to individual trail user groups. Let us know a date and time that works for you and your group!
