Prescribed Burns
More detailed stakeholder updates will be sent prior to each prescribed burn and as more information is known during or after the burns take place. If you would like to be added to the Fire Stakeholder email list, please contact Kim Weir at kim.weir@pc.gc.ca.
Hawk Mountain
This is a 560 hectare burn unit scheduled for ignition this spring. Burning will take place on the slopes of the Colin Range, 15 kilometres north of the Jasper town site and immediately across the Athabasca River from the former Jasper airfield.
Vine Creek
The 725-hectare Vine Creek burn unit is also planned for this spring. It is located about 20 kilometres north of the Jasper town site, on the north side of the Athabasca River. Burning will take place over two to three days.
Pyramid Bench
Small, prescribed burns are expected to take place in the fall, within areas on the Pyramid Bench that have received FireSmart-ForestWise treatment. Burning will take place during the day, then will be completely extinguished each night. This is part of an ongoing program.
Mountain Pine Beetle
Aerial surveys to spot Mountain Pine Beetle colonized trees will take place once again this year, in partnership with the Canadian Forest Service.
