Jasper National Park Centennial
Our Centennial year has arrived and big plans are underway to make 2007 one for the history books! The two largest Centennial-themed events are the Snowball and Winter Carnival Weekend, and Jasper National Park's Birthday Celebration Weekend. Here is a sneak peak at what's in store:
Snowball & Winter Carnival
February 3-4, 2007
The Snowball The Friends of Jasper National Park and Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge are going to get the ball rolling with this extraordinary Saturday night fundraiser and official kick-off for Centennial. The Snowball gala is a must-attend event including an incredible dinner, live entertainment (music, actors, dancers), an eclectic array of guest speakers, a "walk through Jasper's past", and dancing to the vintage tunes of the "Suzie Q Band". Tickets are $100, and proceeds go to the Centennial Legacy Fund. The Winter Carnival The Friends of Jasper National Park and The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge have teamed up to bring you and your family activities that include a skating party, a "Lonely Guide" interpretive presentation (the Mona Matheson story), fire-side chats with Mac Elder (a long time Jasper backcountry warden), cabane à sucre, animal tracking techniques, sleigh rides, "Water on the Rocks" live theatre program, a scavenger hunt, behind the scenes tours of Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, and more! It's all FREE, and takes place Sunday, February 4th, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. See you there!
Jasper National Park Birthday Weekend
September 14-16, 2007
Parks Canada's main event. A raft of activities, events, and programming throughout the weekend, including Jasper National Parks birthday party, a country wide web-cast project, the Centennial Wildlife Festival, the Jasper National Park staff reunion, Jasper in 360 Degrees Art Project, Tuktu Prayers Exhibit, special Centennial Mountain WHIT, a community dinner, performances, and much more.

Parks Canada is proud to participate with partners Marmot Basin, The Athabasca Hotel, and The Canadian Avalanche Association in bringing you another year of avalanche awareness events.
Avalanche Awareness Night
Sunday, January 14th
- takes place at the Athabasca Hotel, 6 pm - 10 pm
- free admission, free food, free life saving information
- guest speakers, ski movies, and avalanche films
- Featured this year: Photo and Movie Competition! Theme: MOUNTAIN RECREATION

Avalanche Awareness Day at Marmot Basin
Saturday, January 27th
- 10 am - 1 pm at the avalanche booth there will be a rescue equipment demo and information session
- 1 pm - explosives and dog search demo at the top of the triple chair
Tour Marmot Basin with an Avalanche Tech
Saturday, January 27th
See Marmot Basin behind the scenes!
- Meet on the side deck of the upper chalet at 10 am
- Take a tour of the Avalanche office and see the tools and strategies for avalanche forecasting.
- Move around the hill and discuss safety, control measures and terrain and its role in the avalanche game.
The Jasper Trails Project reaches out...
Watch for the weekly "Trail Talk" column in the Jasper Booster. If you have a project question you would like answered or if you would like to fill out a mapping exercise, please email Marcia.Dewandel@pc.gc.ca. Our goal is to have 200 local respondents!
