CHRONOLOGY

1982-1985: Phase 1 construction of the first 11 km of highway from the Banff East Gate to km 11; wildlife fencing and five underpasses.

1986-1987: Phase 2 [map3] construction from km 11 to km 27 at the Sunshine interchange was completed; wildlife fencing and six underpasses.

1995-1997: Phase 3A [map4] construction from km 27 to km 45 between Sunshine and Castle Mountain interchange: buried wildlife fencing, 11 wildlife underpasses and two overpasses. Future: Phase 3B [map2] from km 45 to 81, Castle Junction to the British Columbia border, two-lane, unfenced TCH; will be upgraded to four lanes in 5-10 years.
