Comments received:
- I would encourage Parks to thinkwhat are our goals and what is the best venue. Shake things up again. The roundtable format is a wastewe all know what everyone is going to say. I am not sure that a public forum is the best way to achieve what we want to achieve.
- If we are going to talk, maybe we should have some direction about what you want addressed.
- If the reference material was handed to the roundtable participants well in advance, everyone would have enough time to read it. If everyone had time to read the material, there would be no need to make a presentation on the material; thus saving time for everyone. The material must be issued three weeks in advance. Specific research can still be presented at the forum.
- Notice of the forum meeting dates must be given to everyone one month in advance.
- The benefit of a public forum is that it is public and open. The use of breakout groups prevents this public debate.
Preferences for Next Year's Forum:
- 50% preferred that the forum be held on Thursday and Friday, while 50% preferred that it be held on Friday and Saturday. (Roundtable participants chose the former option 60% of the time.)
- 68% preferred that the forum remain a two day event, while 14% preferred a one day format, and 18% did not yet have an opinion.
- 87% of forum participants agreed that late November is the best time to hold the forum.
Evaluation of Proposed Consultation Methods
Participants were asked what would be the best methods of consulting with their sector in early 2003. The intention was to get general feedback about methods, not to limit the consultation methods. The respondents rated each method on a five point scale (1=low value; 5= high value), and their preferences are noted below. M = Mean response.

Comments received:
- The use of web site or e-mail eliminates people who do not have electronic access. When these approaches are used, there must also be a 1-800 number to allow people to call and have information sent to them.
- Face-to-face contact is the only way to reach satisfactory resolution on these items.
- How will you accommodate national consultation? These items affect more people than the regional representatives here in this room.
- You should not open the door for anyone to just check off their answer at the moment. Most of us have taken a long time to learn about these issues. They are complex. Uninformed responses will distort the decision process.
