Fox on the Run

We were surprised by the number of fox photos we captured on camera. Very few staff have ever seen one in Banff National Park - a testament to the fox’s nocturnal and wily nature.

What is a group of foxes called?

A ‘skulk’. Which definition of skulk do you think fits best with the fox:

1.To lie in hiding, as out of cowardice or bad conscience; lurk.
2. To move about stealthily.
3. To evade work or obligation; shirk.

What is a male fox called?

The female is a vixen, the male is a Reynard - also renard or dog, or tod. Strange names indeed. Plunk that into a search engine and you’ll find that in fairy tales, Reynard the Fox was a celebrated hero of the medieval beast epics, popular after c.1150.
