How many birds do you know that live underground? This owl makes its home in the abandoned burrows of prairie dogs, badgers, Richardson's ground squirrels, coyotes and foxes. Hiding underground can't save the burrowing owl from pesticides or habitat loss, both of which threaten its survival.
