Not all cacti live in the desert-this one makes its home at the southernmost tip of Ontario. It gets its name from its pear-shaped green fruit, which turn red in the fall. The fruit and the plant's colourful flowers are irresistible to some gardeners. In fact, one of the greatest threats to the plant's survival in the wild is people who take this cactus for their own gardens.
