These playful and sociable animals are a favourite among visitors to Grasslands National Park in Saskatchewan. They are also important to the grasslands ecosystem. Black-tailed prairie dogs are food for badgers, eagles, hawks, coyotes and foxes. Their abandoned burrows are homes for burrowing owls, rattlesnakes, short-horned lizards and black widow spiders.
