Eastern Spiny Softshell Turtle
© Parks Canada / Lynch, W. / 06.62.10.10(16), 2002
This turtle's nickname is "the pancake turtle"-can you guess why? Turtles are known for their hard shells, but this one has a soft one with spiny projections along the front edge. It lives in Ontario and Quebec. Newly hatched spiny softshells are tiny-about the size of a toonie!
