Taste of Métis Culture – Weekend Festivals:
Batoche National Historic Site & Friends of Batoche invite you to the Taste of Métis Culture Festival.
- culinary samplings & demonstrations
- quilt display
- herbs & medicine plant walks and More!
Fridays - Sept. 5, 12, and 19
Culinary samplings such as;
- bannock on a stick
- dried and cooked wild meat
- rabbit stew
- fish soup
- demonstrations on how to make goose jerky & pemmican
Jigging Workshops Sept. 5, 12 and 19 at 7:00 PM. To register call 306.423.5687 before Sept. 3rd.
Saturdays - Sept. 6, 13, and 20
- plant walks and talks on the historical and medicinal uses of herbs and plants on and off site that were traditionally used by Métis people. Some of the workshops include: "How to make your own polysporin" with herbs and plants.
- quilt display show casing the star blankets, and log cabin quilts.
- quilting and blanket making demonstrations.
Elders have been invited to share their stories about what they ate and how they made everyday items and foods with the animals and plants available.
