Battle of the Restigouche National Historic Site of Canada

Activities

Costumed Presentations

In July and August, costumed heritage interpreters bring to life several artifacts recovered from the wreck of The Machault. These artifacts demonstrate the lifestyles and dress of the Acadians, Migmaq, sailors and French soldiers who participated in the Battle of the Restigouche in the summer of 1760. Come and listen to their amazing stories! Please note that this activity is presented according to the availability of the guides.

Film

A 15 minute animated film retraces the journey of the relief expedition sent by France to support its colony, from the port of Bordeaux to the Restigouche River. Presented daily.

Model

Acquired in 2005, the model of The Machault continues to attract visitors’ attention. Built by Fred Werthman to a 1:32 scale, the model is rich in detail and demonstrates the splendor of the fully rigged 18th century frigate before it sank to the bottom of the Restigouche in 1760.

Several times a day, heritage interpreters offer tours through the exhibition on the captivating world of sailing ships. The activity, which is centered around the model, expands on themes such as French naval architecture and life aboard the ship. Guides will also help observers to discover where parts recovered from The Machault are located in the ship.
