The "Chosier"

This one hour presentation will give you a glimpse into the world of military life in the era of the War of 1812 and other periods. Depending on your interest, interpretive guides at Parks Canada are ready to pack up and bring along a selection of artifacts and other articles with which to narrate fascinating episodes in Canadian history.

Objectives:

This program enables students to distinguish the concepts of paleohistory and history, to familiarize themselves with archeology and dating methods, and to learn about the paleohistory of their region and the First Nations peoples who lived there.

Proposed themes:

Aboriginal presence and archeology; ti-ion-wakwhta: 'Where we carry our canoe'

History program from the Astrolab to Carbon 14

Length : 30 to 75 minutes

Objectives:

This program presents three historical periods to students: French system, British system and contemporary period. It helps them understand the conditions of French exploration in America and the inner workings of the fur trade in the French and British empires.

Proposed themes:
  • The transition from a nomadic to a sedentary way of life
  • Ethnological objects and artifacts
  • The role of various actors in the fur trade
  • Slide projection
  • The mutual influences of the French, British and First Nations cultures.
M.E.Q. Cross-curricular competencies:
  1. Understand the foundations of French empire in America and the development of the colony in the St. Lawrence valley
  2. Understand the influences of the Conquest and the American Revolution on the colony
  3. Understand the new reality in Canada and Quebec in the second half of the 19th century.
