This program aims to sensitize children to the importance of archeology to identify and conserve objects left behind by our ancestors. It also presents the phenomena of the St. Lawrence River canalization as the most advanced technological solution available to avoid the rapids.
Activities:
- Budding Archeologists. Artifacts long forgotten, are witness to the events which marked the history of the site. The group must find these witnesses to the past.
- Like the Boatman. The students defy the current of the man-made canal by towing their boat. They also discover a series of locks by using a miniature canal.
- History Doesn't Stop Here ... The students must correctly place the events which marked the history of the site on a giant time-line.
Competencies:
- To recognize the main changes in the organization of a society and its territory;
- To perceive traces of these changes in our society and territory;
- To define some causes and effects of the differences.
