The Lachine Canal offers programs specially designed for scholar groups from elementary and high school students :

History… in the heart of the city
School Visit Program - Elementary Cycle Three In the heart of Montréal, discover the historic canal that paved the way for the St. Lawrence Seaway and the birth of Canadian industry. Take part in a visit structured arouf observation of the heritage landscape. Compare societies of yesterday and today and understand how their evolution has affected the land and the environment.

An adventure in time… to discover the Lachine Canal
Three multidisciplinary activities for high school students

  • From steam to pedal power
  • The history of the canal
  • Participate in a 15km bike ride revealing fascinating historical, geographical, and scientific facts. Students learn how a lock works and why the canal is so significant to our country’s maritime and industrial history. Activity available starting in spring 2007
  • The Framework of a Nation
  • Dominion textile
  • This in-class multimedia presentation uses concrete examples from the history of a company that flourish alongside the canal to showcase how the creation of the Canadian federation, the development of the industry, and changes in society and landscape between 1850 and 1949 were all linked. Activity available since autumn 2007
