The Dominion Bridge Co. of Lachine built the CN Port Bridge in 1912 for the Grand Trunk Company, which later became Canadian National. Since the mid-1960s, the machinery that made it pivot has no longer been in operation and its structure has been immobilized. This disaffected bridge was an obstacle to the return of shipping so it was turned permanently on its island platform to clear the way for the boats
