Jour de Souvenir Acadien

Date: December, 2013
Location: Port-la-Joye—Fort Amherst National Historic Site

Participate in the commemoration of the 1758 Deportation of more than 3,000 Acadians from Isle Saint-Jean. Gathering at Port-la-Joye—Fort Amherst, you will be invited to listen to readings that are based upon first-person accounts of the events surrounding the Deportation, an event which resulted in the deaths of more than half of those deported. In 2008, this historic event was recognized by the Government of Prince Edward Island as the most devastating human tragedy in the history of what is now Prince Edward Island. Join in the procession to the Acadian Odyssey Monument, where the Proclamation of the Acadian Day of Remembrance will be read and a wreath of remembrance will be placed.
