Visiting by Car

The Trent-Severn Waterway is a Canadian National Historical Canal located in a beautiful area easily accessible by car. Most lock stations are located next to or just a short distance from a major Central Ontario route. Roadside Parks Canada beaver signage steers you to the favourite Waterway attractions. Since there is so much to experience at each lock – whether it be boat watching, picnicking or relaxing in a park-like setting – taking excursions to see and enjoy the locks by land has become a favourite pastime for many.

Most stations provide access for those with special needs, picnic tables and clean washrooms. All have interpretive displays and lock staff who are available to answer questions or explain lock operations.

There are also many interesting attractions to visit within the region. When in the area, check out the local conservation areas, then explore the cities and the many quaint towns and villages. Or, have a picnic under one of the trees at a lock station and then take a walk along any of the extensive trail systems located alongside the Waterway.
