Brighton Road Swing Bridge Load Restriction

Peterborough, Ontario, June 11, 2010 – The Superintendent of the Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site of Canada advises that the load limit for the Brighton Road Swing Bridge across the Murray Canal on County Road 64 will be reduced to 9 tonnes effective immediately.

Repairs to the Brighton Road Swing Bridge are scheduled to be completed in 2011/2012. Consultants are currently completing their assessment of the bridge which will be used as a basis for the design and repair work.

Parks Canada is committed to completing repairs as required for public safety and will continue to communicate closely with the City of Quinte West, Municipality of Brighton, and Prince Edward County throughout the planning and construction process.
