Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site of Canada

Construction Begins At Peterborough Lift Lock Visitor Centre

PETERBOROUGH, ONTARIO, August 24, 2011 – The Superintendent of the Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site of Canada wishes to advise that construction will occur at the Peterborough Lift Lock Visitor Centre beginning August 22nd 2011. This will require the closure of the Visitor Centre until further notice.

The Visitor Centre is undergoing renovations to better serve the public and it is anticipated to fully re-open in winter 2012. Information updates will be released as the project progresses. Normal operations will continue at the Peterborough Lift Lock (NHS), and with few restrictions, visitors are welcome to visit the Lift Lock grounds to enjoy the world’s highest hydraulic lift lock.

In 2011 Parks Canada is celebrating its 100th anniversary as the world’s first national parks service. During the 2011 summer season many activities are planned throughout the Trent-Severn Waterway region to celebrate Parks Canada’s Centennial.
