Fort Malden Opening Day!

We welcome you to Fort Malden, as we celebrate our 76th anniversary. Participate in activities including mini militia for kids, garden tours, guided walks, and cookhouse demonstrations. Get ready for a thrill observing our musket and cannon firing demonstrations! An authentic 1812 experience awaits.

Canada Day and The Return of Fort Malden
July 1, 2015

Celebrate our nation's birthday at Fort Malden as we commemorate the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Army giving the Fort back to the British. Come and witness a re-enactment of this ceremony, with military music, musket and cannon demonstrations. Cap off the festivities with a fireworks finale along the Detroit River! This traditional event is the best in the region and not to be missed!

Great War Encampment
July 25-26, 2015

Over 100 years ago, Canadian Soldiers marched off to fight in the First World War. Come to Fort Malden this weekend where we feature a captivating display on infantry, artillery and cavalry units. New this year will be 100 year old cars, motorcycles, and other vintage vehicles from the Great War period. Do not miss this exciting weekend filled as re-enactors demonstrate horse riding and tactics from a time when Fort Malden was the recruiting office for the Canadian Mounted Rifles for Essex County.

Military Heritage Days
August 1-2, 2015

Come to Fort Malden National Historic Site to see 2000 years of military history as we take you from Romans to Redcoats and beyond. Kids can participate in the Parks Canada Xplorer Scavenger Hunt, learn to march like a British Soldier, or dress up as a boat and participate in a water fight to recreate the Battle of Lake Erie. Discover even more through interactive opportunities, such as tactical and musical demonstrations, and various military encampments will be sure to inspire long lasting, unique memories for all.

A Garrison Christmas
December 19, 2015
1 pm – 5 pm

Come and discover how soldiers two hundred years ago celebrated Christmas. View decorations made by students from schools in Essex County, and help us judge our colouring contest. Sip cider, eat cookies, or even treat yourself to a soldier's Christmas meal. Children can make decorations to take home and participate in various games and activities. Regular admission fees apply.
