We Are Looking for Students
Louisbourg300 celebrations are currently underway. In 2013 the Fortress of Louisbourg, as well as local communities across Cape Breton Island, will be celebrating the founding of the French colony of Île Royale (Cape Breton Island) and its capital, Louisbourg.
In anticipation of these celebrations that will be happening throughout the year, Parks Canada is preparing to staff several student positions. Positions include:

Outreach Support – Provide educational and theatrical programming off-site in urban centres across Canada as well as various communities in Cape Breton.

Visitor Experience Assistants – Be part of the costumed "living history" part of our program at the Fortress.

Visitor Information Centre Support – Provide visitor orientation and welcoming to visitors at Provincial Visitor Information Centres in Cape Breton.

Legacy Exhibit Support – Conduct historical research and help in developing new exhibit projects currently underway.

Public Relations and Communications Support – Support media activities for the Fortress of Louisbourg

Volunteer Support – Help with volunteer planning and coordination during the celebrations

New Media Support – Support initiatives for new media platforms (Facebook, Twitter)

Videographer – Shoot, edit and produce videos covering Louisbourg300 activities.

Costume support – Be part of developing period costumes to support the celebrations.

Outreach and Art Exhibit Planning Student – Help in planning art exhibits and provide art or craft performances in the local community.

We Need Volunteers!
Parks Canada is looking for volunteers to help us celebrate Louisbourg300 in 2013. Louisbourg300 celebrates the founding of Louisbourg as a settlement and the French colony of Île Royale (Cape Breton) in 1713. Many events and activities are being planned throughout the summer season. Don't miss your chance to be part of celebrating this special year!
We will be hosting information sessions for potential volunteers in both Sydney and Louisbourg.

A Taste of History: Culinary History Book Launched at Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site
The Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site is proud to announce the official launch of French Taste in Atlantic Canada. Written by Parks Canada historian Anne Marie Lane Jonah and Chef Chantal Véchambre, this book offers a gastronomic history of the French influence in Atlantic Canada from 1604 to 1758.
From cover to cover, this bilingual culinary history book illustrates how food has been a common tie throughout the centuries in Atlantic Canada. It features over 200 pages of recipes, photographs and commentary which provides historical context for the dishes featured.
Louisbourg's story begins and ends with war. Île Royale (present day Cape Breton Island) was founded in 1713, and for nearly 50 years the fortress and its people were caught in the struggle for continental control. In between conflicts, there was peace and a thriving town. This book shares with you the peaceful times and the theme of food.
Food is just one of the many themes being celebrated at the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site in 2013. Next year Parks Canada will be saluting 300 years since Louisbourg's founding as capital of Île Royale.
