The Halifax Citadel Regimental Association (H.C.R.A.), established in 1993, is a non- profit organization that promotes and supports the mandate of Parks Canada in interpreting its heritage resources. The Association manages and presents the living history program, guided tours, visitor and retail services at the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site. The Association is made up of former employees of the living history program.
This internationally acclaimed living history program has become recognized as a symbol of Halifax and Nova Scotia. Each year thousands of visitors are treated to historic demonstrations of 19th century life. The noon gun, changing of the sentry, foot and rifle drill, signals, and pipes and drums are performed throughout the summer. A schoolmaster is on site to demonstrate 19th century education methods in the restored regimental school. A role playing School Program is also available for bookings by interested school groups from grades four to six.
In addition to supporting the living history program the H.C.R.A. operates a Gift Shop , Coffee Bar and Music School. Light snacks, lunches as well as catering service for events held on site are available in the 19th century furnished rooms. Souvenirs focusing on the site and 19th century history, as well as a postal outlet, are available at the regimental gift shop.
In conjunction with Parks Canada, the H.C.R.A. sponsors an active volunteer program for both children and adults.
