St. Andrews Blockhouse National Historic Site of Canada

Interpretation

Inside the Blockhouse

The building includes two areas furnished to their original appearance: a barracks room and a storage loft. Both suggest the Spartan lifestyle of soldiers manning the outpost. Parks Canada interpreters are available on-site to further reveal the Blockhouse's history.

On-site Interpretive Signs

There is a series of six illustrated interpretive panels at various points on the grounds. These help visitors gain an understanding of the War of 1812's significance, the nature and use of a blockhouse, and what everyday life was like in a garrison town.
