HISTORY COMES ALIVE AT FORT BEAUSEJOUR – FORT CUMBERLAND WITH HISTORIC 18th CENTURY ENCAMPMENT
AULAC, NEW BRUNSWICK, Friday August 19th 2011 – Parks Canada is proud to host an exciting historic 18th century encampment and living history event at Fort Beauséjour – Fort Cumberland National Historic Site of Canada, Saturday, August 27th, and Sunday, August 28th, 2011.
Come experience the sound of the drum, the thrill of the musket firing, the smell of gunpowder and authentic period costumes. Re-enactors will portray camp and military life typical of an 18th century fort. Visitors can discover and experience fort life as small arms military drills and manoeuvres are conducted, as well as enjoy talks and demonstrations.
A detachment of the Compagnies Franches de la Marine and supporting Militia will journey from the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site of Canada to participate in the encampment. The 40th Regiment of Foot, Grenadier Company (Halifax Citadel Regimental Association), Danks Rangers, and individual participants portraying 78th Fraser Highlanders and the French Acadian/Mi'kmaq will also be there “living history”.
People of all ages are welcome to enjoy Fort Life in the 18th century. The encampment will be located within the Fort Beauséjour – Fort Cumberland National Historic Site and is open to the public August 27th and 28th during regular site hours, from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.
Entry to the encampment is included with admission fees to the Fort Beauséjour – Fort Cumberland National Historic Site of Canada.
