The Visitor Centre is the entrance to the site. It offers reception and information services, a multimedia exhibit, a gift shop operated by the Friends of Lower Fort Garry, and public washrooms.

A picnic shelter next to the Visitor Centre provides shaded space for a picnic as well as picnic tables. There are ample grassy areas surrounding the picnic shelter.

Inside the Visitor Centre is a large multi-purpose room with adjoining patio, which is available for rental for meetings, weddings, banquets and other events. See also: Meeting and Event Facilities.

Public washrooms are also available on the historic grounds.

Accessibility

Motorized carts are available for transporting visitors with limited mobility to the historic grounds. People with disabilities may also be permitted to drive their vehicles up to the west gate entrance to reduce the amount of walking needed to visit the historic site.

Wheelchairs and strollers are available on loan from Parks Canada staff in the Visitor Centre. All pathways on the historic site are gravel. There are benches placed around the site to allow visitors to rest and enjoy the site's beauty.

The Visitor Centre is entirely accessible and includes an accessible washroom.

Because of the historic nature of the buildings, not all buildings on the historic grounds are fully accessible.

Language Services

Services at Lower Fort Garry are offered in both English and French. Pick up a site orientation map in the Visitor Centre. We also provide information in Cantonese, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish, and Ukrainian.

Pets

Lower Fort Garry is proud to be a dog-friendly facility. Dogs are allowed into most of the historic buildings and the Visitor Centre. Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times. Owners are ultimately responsible for cleaning up after their dogs and for their dog’s behaviour. Our staff will be happy to help you make your visit to the site with your dog a pleasant experience.
