A Walk Through the Site
Parks Canada staff welcoming visitors at the Orientation Circle©Parks Canada
The stories of the people and events that made The Forks a meeting place through the centuries are presented in the site's sculptures, displays and facilities. Let's explore what the site has to offer...
The main entrance, with its circular orientation area, welcomes visitors to this historic meeting place: "...dedicated to all those who came to The Forks and shared their visions for a better future. Their hopes and dreams became the Canadian West."
The Path of Time Sculpture©Parks Canada
At the centre of the Orientation Circle sits a sculpture, "The Path of Time," created by Manitoba artist Marcel Gosselin. Various symbols representing the tools used by the many peoples who have come to The Forks are carved out of the bronze shell. As the sun traces an east to west path across the sky each day, a chronological succession of symbols are projected onto the sculpture's limestone centrepiece. The upper row of images is illuminated by the sun during its course in the summer, the lower row by the spring and autumn sun.
