Communities in the Fur Trade (primary students)
Barrel-rolling Relay © Parks Canada/N. Hildebrand 2012
Students use their imaginations as they follow in the foot¬steps of a historical character, 8-year-old Helen Robertson. Discover her family and neighbours in the fort and in the nearby Kwantlen village and discover how their 1800s communities compare with our communities today. We provide a lesson plan and story, “Helen’s Surprise,” for teachers to use in the classroom.
- Identify cultural similarities and differences
