Gone Higher - The Life and Times of Norman Bethune Sanson

Warm up with fireside storytelling as Parks Canada Heritage Interpreters introduce you to a local legend, Norman Bethune Sanson, naturalist and original curator at the Banff Park Museum NHS. Complimentary snowshoes on a first-come-first serve basis.

History Hustle

Join local Parks Canada interpreters as they take you on a whirlwind journey through some of their favourite Canadian National Historic Sites - from Vikings to Vimy Ridge, Fisheries to the Fur trade. This family friendly program is free with site admission.

Exploring the Winter Night Sky

Saturday, January 28, 7 p.m. to midnight (Indoor presentation: 7 to 8 p.m.)

Put on your warmest winter woollies and join Parks Canada and the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada for an evening of sub-zero celestial exploration. Access to telescopes and starlight interpretation during stargazing presentation.

Expose Yourself to History - The Collector's Circle

Daily between February 1 to 29. Grand opening February 4, 2 to 4 p.m.

"The Collector's Circle" is a collaborative exhibition exploring the Banff Park Museum NHS's collection and its history. Jesse Birch, Kari Cwynar, Marc Losier and D'Arcy Wilson animate, through photography, video and text, the shadows and mythologies of a collection: the unknown stories and forgotten provenances of the museum, its holdings, and its founding curator, Norman Sanson. This project was originally conceived during the thematic residency La Commune. The Asylum. Die Bühne in the Visual Arts Department at The Banff Centre in June of 2011. This reprise is presented as part of Exposure 2012. Free with site admission.

March into Canada's Military Past

A series of public events and activities will be scheduled between February 9 to 11
Visit the Parks Canada Information Centre for locations.
Join us as we welcome the Halifax Citadel NHS. Transport back in time to the 1800's with soldiers from the 78th Highlander Regiment. This Victorian Regiment in tartan kilts will engage all your senses with the sights of military firing demonstration, the sounds of drums and the taste of Victorian military culinary traditions.

Victorian Tea Party

Thursday February 9, 3 – 5 p.m.
Parks Canada Administration Building, Harkin Hall
Transport back in time to the 1800’s sipping tea and nibbling afternoon treats with soldiers from the 78th Highlander Regiment. Fee is $2.00

Victorian Soldier Drumming and Firing Demonstration

Friday February 10, 1 p.m.

March into Canada's military history as soldiers from the Halifax Citadel NHS show you the sights and sounds of Victorian Regiment drums and firing demonstrations.

Victorian Hockey Demonstration Game

Saturday February 11, 4:30 p.m
Banff Community High School Outdoor Skating Rink 
Hockey fans unite! Cheer for the officers of the 78th Highlanders who play by "Halifax Rules", the first known set of official hockey rules. A goal has been scored when the hand bell rings! Experience the same passion for Canada's beloved sport felt in the 1860's and '70's when members of the Halifax garrison and fleet first played hockey at the Halifax Citadel NHS.

Victorian Soldier Drumming and Firing Demonstration

Saturday February 11, 8 p.m.
Banff Avenue Square
Dressed in their finest tartan kilts, members of the Victorian Regiment will engage all of your senses with the sights of a military firing demonstration and the sounds of drums, set in the heart of downtown Banff.
