The Letter T he Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada was created in 1919 by the federal government in response to public interest in heritage preservation. The Minister of Canadian Heritage designates people, places and events of national historic significance on the advice of the Board. Public involvement in the identification and commemoration of Canada's rich and diverse history is an essential component of this program, as individual Canadians and groups bring forward most nominations presented to the Board. Parks Canada supports the Board in the conduct of its business, and works closely with members of the public who submit nominations.
