Government of Nunavut archeologist Doug Stenton, at a cairn erected at the Erebus Bay site in 1994 by the Government of Northwest Territories in memory of the lost men. The plaque inscription placed on the cairn reads, “To the memory of the crew members of Sir John Franklin’s expedition of 1845 who died here in the spring of 1848”.
