Dorion’s Canyon Country Birding Festival

Do you have an interest in Birds? Join Parks Canada as they partner with the Dorion Canyon Country Birding Festival to enjoy two full days of guided birding excursions at Hurkett Cove, Ouimet Canyon, & the Nipigon River Recreation Trail. While at Hurkett Cove and on the Nipigon River Recreation Trail enjoy magnificent views of the proposed Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area.

Father’s Day Nature Walk and Bio Blitz

On Saturday, June 2, 2012 from 11am – 2pm take part in the Father’s Day Nature Walk & Bio Blitz at the Nipigon Marina and on the Nipigon River Recreational Trail. Join Parks Canada, and Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources staff for a nature walk to discover some of the amazing animals and plants in the neighbourhood. After the nature walk, kids will complete a nature-themed craft (fish print) and enjoy a free nutritious lunch while enjoying the sounds of singer/songwriter Rodney Brown and an opportunity for a family photo. The day will wrap up with a tree planting, each tree identified with a family name. The event is in collaboration with the above organizations and Brass Bell Family Resources Centre, Thunder Bay District Health Unit and Township of Nipigon. Rossport Island Sea Kayaking Symposium

If interested in learning about kayaking from professionals, or brushing up on your skills than you don’t want to miss this year’s Sea Kayaking Symposium at Rossport. A variety of workshops and guided events promise to make this a great learning experience for everyone. While at the symposium be sure to visit Parks Canada’s booth and learn more about the Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area or hear stories of paddling in Pukaskwa National Park from paddler and Parks Canada staff member Lyn Elliott.

Lake Superior Day

On Sunday, July 15, 2012 Parks Canada will be joining communities along the top of Lake Superior in celebrating Lake Superior Day. Parks Canada staff will be on hand to join in the celebrations so be sure to drop by to learn more about the proposed Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area. Come be part of the festivities and meet Parks Canada staff.

Live from the Rock Folk Festival

Join Parks Canada’s Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area in Red Rock during the 10th Annual Live from the Rock Folk Festival. To celebrate, Parks Canada invites you to experience Lake Superior as a modern-day Voyageur. August 10-12, 2012 free daily 90-minute guided canoe tours will be offered from the marina on a first come, first serve basis (Note: Guided canoe tours are free with festival admission). No paddling experience is required. Children (under 18 years) must be accompanied by an adult.
