In order to make the most of your outing and avoid any unpleasant incidents, here are a few guidelines to follow:
For your safety
As with all summer activities, park visitors are asked to properly prepare and plan their visit to ensure their own safety.
Since snowshoeing trail network is located in the backcountry, it is important to note that response times in emergency situations can differ based on the place of the incident and weather conditions. The right equipment and good preparation will allow you to ensure your safety until help arrives.
Choose an activity at your level. An activity at your level and for which you have the knowledge and physical abilities to stay safe will ensure that you have an enjoyable experience.
Plan your outing around the weather forecast, snow conditions, and the distance you will be travelling.
Plan to get back before nightfall.
Inform someone of your itinerary.
Make sure you’re equipped to survive several hours in the cold. In case of an emergency situation, here is a list of suggested items:
- A warm change of clothing
- Flashlight and extra batteries
- Fire-starting kit
- First aid kit
- Survival shelter or emergency blanket
- Orientation and communication kit (park map, compass, GPS, cellular phone, etc.)
- Enough food and water
- Snowshoes and/or crampons
Note that cellular telephone service is not available throughout all La Mauricie National Park.
