Wandering along picturesque Vallée des Forts Road, pause for a picnic on the site of the Chambly Canal near Lock No. 3.
You’ll come across cycling enthusiasts riding the 20-kilometre path that connects Chambly to Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. Interpretive panels reveal that the canal has been in operation since 1843. Imagine the barges, one after another on the waterway, transporting wood, hay and grain towards the United States. Think of the voyageurs disembarking from their riverboats to visit Chambly before returning to New York and recounting their journeys.
Back to the 21st century - watch a pleasure boat passing through one of the nine locks. Further on, along the former towpath, continue your walk amid the delightful diversity of nature and the beauty of the countryside.
