The Story of Confederation
Together, Confederation Centre of the Arts and Parks Canada are pleased to provide you with an update on The Story of Confederation. This program offers visitors the opportunity to learn about Province House National Historic Site and the Charlottetown Conference while Province House is closed for conservation work over the next three to five years.
A variety of captivating heritage experiences that present the birth of the nation story in new and innovative ways are now available for all to enjoy.
The Confederation Chamber Experience
Location: Confederation Centre of the Arts’ Upper Foyer
Cost: Free of charge

- 10:00 am – 3:00 pm Monday to Saturday, closed Sunday.
- Private bookings* are also available outside of normal operating times.
July / August
- 9:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday to Saturday.
- 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm Sunday.
September / October 8th
- 11:00 am - 4:00 pm Monday to Saturday.
October 9 / April 30th, 2017:
- 10:00 am - 3:00 pm Saturday.
- Private bookings* are also available outside of normal operating times.

The Chamber visitor experience includes the following:
- A stunning replica of the historical Confederation Chamber where the Fathers of Confederation met during the Charlottetown Conference;
- Parks Canada’s new 20-minute film ‘Building of Destiny’ which transports viewers back in time to the first eight days in September 1864 when history was made at Province House that would change the face of North America. This film also showcases related themes, including the First Nations context at the time of Confederation and the role of women in Victorian society;
- Guided interpretation of the exhibit, which includes a few original artifacts from the Confederation Chamber.
The Story of Confederation Kiosk
Location: Beside the 1864 sculpture on the historic grounds surrounding Province House National Historic Site of Canada.
Cost: Free of charge
Hours of Operation (weather permitting)
July / August
9:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday to Saturday
12:00 pm – 5:00 pm Sunday.
The kiosk will offer the following services:
- Point of purchase for Charlottetown Festival and Confederation Players walking tours;
- Information on Confederation Centre of the Arts, Province House National Historic Site and other Parks Canada heritage places on PEI;
- Wifi access to the official Parks Canada Province House app. The app is available for free download to your handheld device or with the use of an iPad, which will be available for loan;
- Parks Canada’s Green Screen, which allows visitors to have their image superimposed on a stunning Parks Canada backdrop image (weather depending).
Visitors are also welcome to learn more about this iconic site through new interpretive panels that have been installed on the grounds of Province House.
