BioBlitz is a 24 hour inventory of the plants and animals that make up the ecosystems found at Fort St. Joseph. Lots of activities for nature, science and biology lovers of all ages! Join a walk and help with the inventory. This is a great family event with a variety of activities for all ages. No registration is required and admission is free as part of the Canada 150 celebrations!

We will be using iNaturalist to record all of the plant and animal species that we discover. To join in on the citizen science fun, download the iNaturalist app and become a member of the Fort St. Joseph BioBlitz page!

  • 12:00 p.m. – Opening ceremonies

  • 2:45 p.m. – Dragonflies and butterflies walk
  • 3:00 p.m. – Plant survey
  • 4:00 p.m. – Kids bug collection challenge
  • 6:00 p.m. – Mammal live trap set-up
  • 8:30 p.m. – Owl prowl and creepy crawlies

June 25

  • 6:00 a.m. – Sunrise bird walk
  • 6:30 a.m. – Mammal live trap check and release
  • 9:00 a.m. – Family bird walk
  • 9:15 a.m. – Phragmites walk
  • 10:15 a.m. – Plant walk
  • 10:30 a.m. – Pond study
  • 12:30 p.m. - Closing ceremonies
