Wetlands – Rain Forests of the North

These artificially constructed ponds have only been planted with native wetland plants to simulate a wetland and provide us an opportunity to highlight the importance of this habitat in maintaining healthy aquatic ecosystems.

Did you know that wetlands are among the most productive and dynamic ecosystems in the world!?! They are often compared to rain forests and coral reefs. Wetlands provide habitat for numerous living things from all major groups – from the microscopic to insects, to plants and animals.

Wetlands provide many benefits to nature and society – such as fish and wildlife habitat, natural water filtration, protection against shoreline erosion and opportunities for recreation and visual appreciation. By protecting and restoring wetlands, we are ensuring the long-term health of the community and nature.
