Founded on permanent basis in 1883 under the direction of Professor R.C. Weldon, the law faculty of Dalhousie University soon became one of the foremost law schools in Canada. Its program, a balance of theoretical and practical study, was a model for other university law schools and many of its graduating students subsequently became prominent in the legal profession and in politics in the maritime and western provinces. The Dalhousie Law School is the oldest faculty in Canada teaching in the traditions of the English common law.
