Teaching Tips
- Tips for using the National Park System Plan : Use the System Plan to identify the natural region in which you live, what is special about your natural region, what parks represent it, and what is significant about those parks. Look at other regions and their parks. Discuss the reasons for having a national parks system.
- Tips for using the visitor attendance figures : Compare attendance at different parks. Which park has the highest attendance? Which has the lowest? What trends can you find? Discuss the impacts of high and low attendance on parks.
- Tips for using the 2001 State of Protected Heritage Areas Report : Find out what Parks Canada is doing to complete the national parks system. What new parks are in the process of being established? What parks are being considered for expansion?
Use the Table of Contents to find information on threats to ecological integrity – climate change, urbanization, human land use, exotic species – and what Parks Canada has been doing to counter them. Discuss what other options might be available to deal with the challenges.
